The collection consists of papers which largely document Arthur's career as a professor of oceanography at SIO. Included are course notes for UCLA Meteorology 103, SIO Oceanography 110 (1956, 1961), Oceanography 210 (1948-1949). Oceanography 210b and 211 (1951), all courses taught by Arthur. The collection also includes extensive notes on students of oceanography, 1938-1959; these notes were apparently compiled for a report by the Committee on Education and Recruitment of the American Society of Limnology and Oceanography in 1960. The collection includes dated and labeled color slides of the SIO and of the University of Washington Friday Harbor Laboratory taken in 1950.
